Our Nature: Manuel Antonio National Park
Just 75 min away from Yabá Chiguí Lodge, you will find the renowned Manuel Antonio National Park. Its natural beauty has captivated, with all reason, Costa Ricans and visitors alike for years. However, this high popularity sometimes translates into an overcrowded beach and a rushed experience.
Here are some ideas/tips to get the best out of your visit to this unique gem:
- Plan a full day in the area. You can mix in a light hike in the trails, leisure time at the beach and lunch in a nearby restaurant. In addition to the park, you can include some zip-lining in the afternoon if you are feeling very active.
- Weekdays are less crowded than weekends. The park is closed on Tuesdays.
- Most guided tours operate in the morning, which is a great time for animal sightings but it can feel crowded with all the visitors. After midday, you will notice there are fewer people, and the beach is much quieter.
- There are a couple of short to medium trails. In the rainy season, these can be quite muddy and challenging. Punta Catedral trail is worth the uphill.
- Food and single-use plastic is NOT allowed inside the park; beverages are allowed (water, sodas, juice).
- BACKPACK LIST: cash for the parking (there is no official parking, but private parking can be ₡4,000 - ₡5,000), lots of water, sunblock, shoes for light hiking, a small towel, a camera and some toilet paper is always handy.
